As most you know... pretty horrible story. Although it's more like what do you expect now a days with such a young kid behind something that he probably doesn't know how to handle. Mixed with unknown feeling of an adreniline rush and a high performance vehicle = unexpected death.
The Alameda County coroner's bureau has released the names of two teenagers who were killed in a horrific crash Tuesday morning in unincorporated Alameda County near Castro Valley.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating whether the crash that killed 18-year-old Clark Wright and 17-year-old Sarah Streicher, both of Castro Valley, was caused by street racing.
The CHP received a call at about 12:45 a.m. reporting a single-vehicle crash on Dublin Canyon Road just east of Eden Canyon Road that had knocked down a utility pole, according to CHP Officer Steve Creel.
Authorities arrived to find a 1997 Chevrolet Corvette overturned in the westbound lane of Dublin Canyon Road with the deceased male driver and female passenger inside the vehicle, Creel said.
Through witness interviews, the CHP learned that earlier in the night the victims had been racing against a 2004 BMW M3 car driven by an 18-year-old Castro Valley man who also had a 17-year-old female passenger, Creel said.
Investigators have not determined how fast the Corvette was traveling, but found 300 feet of tire marks in the roadway before the vehicle struck a chain-link fence and utility pole before overturning and coming to rest on its roof, Creel said.
Authorities are still trying to locate the BMW and determine its involvement in the crash, Creel said.
Dublin Canyon Road is expected be closed until about 3 p.m. while authorities clean up the debris and Pacific Gas and Electric replaces the utility pole.
The cleanup should not have much of an adverse effect on commuting since the closed road runs alongside Interstate Highway 580, Creel said.
