ah shit....is this one of those retard "this brand only" forums...ugh i cant stand those people. Its one thing to lean towards a brand...its another to think GM makes the best thing every time...and not counting the various turds they have made in the years as well(see aveo...see cavalier...all years....see chevette)
Anyhow, if i do go with yet another vehicle, i may see if i can find a 70s vette. See if i can find a 74/75' and make it a ballz out crazy race car.

Too well. My mom used to drive me around in a rust brown pinto when I was 12.....:shake:..that was long ago.
ZQ8. I don't really care what other people drive, I wont buy a foreign car and I don't care for Ford styling (ok, i like the Mustang ). I am pretty GM loyal but if a good deal came along I could be persuaded otherwise.

please show something ford has honestly produced to show some impact in the industry besides the GT500 and the regular Ford GT...
no harm trying to say that just because this is a GM forum being that we don't care for other makes it's just pretty much PROVEN that there's not much that can touch the all around vehicles that GM has produced over the years... with them being in the top 5 companies in the world, that's saying something

the new one is a joke. The C6 proves why i have a distaste for most GMs, you go from 40-100k so you can get different wheels from base model when it comes to looks. They are so boring looking. Atleast with the GT500(a car i'm not that fond of) you get a vehicle that looks vastly different from the base model.
Not to mention that when i think ZR1 i think of a kickasses vette with a unique engine. Rather then just a boring Z06 with a blower slapped on.
a car that showed impact? How about the original mustang. Or how about the lightning for stepping it up a notch and making performance trucks into "sport trucks" with nice handling suspension. chevy had the 454ss(turd) and then the syclone, which is nice, but not much for styling and i'd be willing to bet that awd didnt make for superb handling and was probably put into the truck for forward grip.
And don't get me started on the newer silverado SS...they pulled an 05' mustang with that one. Great concept, WTF delivery.
saying "GM is in the top 5" doesnt say much when GM encompasses like 6 different brands.
as for not touching, last i checked ford was outselling chevy with that F150, and for good reason. It has a nicer interior and some sexy options if you're willing to pay for them(see saleen f150)
Its safe to say that GM as well as the others have puked out some crappy vehicles. and to think that one is much better then the other is kind of absurd.

not gonna continue...
but your ban meter is rising :jester:
it's for one to not like the design of the C6 but it's another to mock it's performance. there's are distinguishable differences in looks between the two for the average corvette enthusiast
next... overall yes GM is in the top 5 of world companies exactly what I was meaning... ford has who?
overall... what do you honestly expect pushing yourself to where your going with the site name being NORCAL GM RACING :smash:

im definitely a ford fan too, ive owned several mustangs, and after driving an lsx powered car, i would never go back. for the money you pay for one, and the way they respond to mods etc etc i could go on for days just hangin on the lsx nut sack.
IMO the only car mustang developed to compete with the camaro, corvette, gto, and cts v was the 03-04 cobras. AND they still had to slap a poweradder to it to keep up. but hey different strokes for different folks.

No, i just have alot negative to say about chevy's and half-assed lexus vehicles. After owning a chevy and having zero luck with it, then seeing how chevy does a piss poor job in the styling department with many vehicles(hence the reason that new Z06 looks like a base model with wheels)
Infact i saw 3 C6s on the side of the highway this morning....all 3 looked the same from a casual look....except that badge. Pardon me for wanting more then a badge and wheels for my 80k. when it comes to styling. Sure you get extra this and that for track performance, but for the average buyer will it make a difference? probably not.
As for owning a sports car...i'd think that list speaks for itself, don't you? And whats price have to do with anything?? I could run out and by a 35k S2000 thats technically a sports car, but performs like something in the under 20k range.
and yes, i'm sure my ban meter is rising ever so more for not bowing down to the "almighty" corvette. Pardon this opinion of one who expects styling to come with the large pricetag.

No, I just have alot negative to say about chevy's and half-assed lexus vehicles.
You are welcome to your opinion, but you seem to have more of an ignorant view of "what you get for 80k" for a corvette. You should probably try to drive one or at least do the research on what the differences are between a regular C6 versus a C6 Z06. There is more to a sports car than what you see on the outside.
After owning a chevy and having zero luck with it
Have you driven any corvette or do you base your opinion of chevy on the colorado. That's like basing your opinion about Ford based on the Ford Festiva. There is a reason why the Corvette has been an "American Icon" for almost 60 years, but I guess all those articles in Car and Driver about the corvette must be wrong.
I could run out and by a 35k S2000 that's technically a sports car, but performs like something in the under 20k range.
This only shows more of your ignorance. If you are trying to tell me that a S2000 (237 HP) performs the same as a civic (140 HP), then you really don't know much about cars. The S2000 is lighter, faster, and hugs corners like there is no tomorrow. But it is my guess that you haven't driven a S2000 or your wouldn't be saying that it performs like a 20k car.
ZQ8Dude
August 20th, 2008, 10:23 PM
Homer- Again, for 80k, i'd expect more in the styling department. For how easily those LSx engines make power, it makes no sense for the average person to buy a car for 40k more that looks minimally different and doesnt make 20k extra worth of power, or 20k worth of suspension.
No, i base my opinion on the fact that the 80k Z06 came out and had its roof peeling off. hmm, maybe thats why its so cheap? its CHEAPly made. Then my truck was an absolute nightmare, and of course finding that all 3 of my local dealers sucked help me form the opinion that chevy makes nothing i'll ever be impressed by or wanna own.
Looks to me like you're quickly showing your ignorance with that S2gay. 20kish range will get you an Si. 197hp. The ones at the track on saturday were going about as fast as the average S2k.(mid 14s).
As for handling, wow good for it, but you know what else handles that good?? A MIATA.
So, you get the straight line performance of an Si civic/cobalt SS with miata handling...and for 5k more you can buy a corvette. Whats so great??
Not to mention that thing makes no torque and is not very light at 2800lbs.
Homer3D
August 21st, 2008, 08:45 AM
Seems to me that you think performance is all about going in a straight line. That's fine. You can have that. There are many people that think that, so you are not alone. But I would like to see those people keep up with me on the back hills, and let's see what that "straight line" performance takes them. S2000 is not a 1/4 mile track car. Was built more for handling than for speed (like the Miata)
Find me a new Civic SI under 20k and I will take my words back. Last I checked, base model Civic SI starts at 22k.
Find me a new Miata for under 20k and once again, I will take my words back. Last I checked, base model Miatas start at 24k.
If you want to say that these "sports cars" are not any better than cheaper "non-sports cars", that fine. You are entitled to you opinion...even though your opinion is clearly opposite of every car magazine and of every person that has actually owned a sports car.
Question: If all your negative views on GM cars....why are you on all these GM forums? Why not find yourself a "my 18k car performs as good as a cars twice the price" forum. I am sure you will be very popular there.

No, my view of performance is rarely in a straight line. If it was then i'd have a bulky fullsize truck that handles poorly, but goes very well in a straight line.
However for 35 fucking k, the vehicle better do more then handle like a miata. And not outrunning a cheap civic or RSX-s is fucking pathetic. The sad thing is that even the new miatas are close to the S2k in straight line performance for an assload less. The current miata base is 21k, the Si base is 21k as well. SOOOO SORRY FOR BEING A THOUSAND DOLLARS OFF :smash:
I saw a review on youtube where a new S2k is only equal to an old E30 M3 on a track. Seems like someone is ripping off the consumer if for 35k you can only equal a 20+year old car. :smash: And yes i know the E30 M3 is a great handling car, but its still working on older technology and honda should have atleast built a car that could do better.

Find me a car that is perfect. You will never find one. Every car at one point in time has had recalls, cheap parts, or lacking in certain areas. GM is not above this rule. My 92 Nissan Sentra ($10,600 brand new) lasted me 11 years, no real major issues. My 94 Mitsubishi 3000gt VR4 ($55k brand new) was only with me until 2001. Active aero was messing up (moving spoiler), it stared burning oil as an alarming rate, etc. Does that mean my Sentra was better that my 3000GT. No. They are not even in the same class. And I think that is what you are doing. You are comparing cars in different classes, meant for different things. My corvette has performance on the street, but take me offroad and your truck will leave me behind.
And M3 and a S2000 is not even in the same class. And also not fair to compare new versus old when it comes to price. You can probably pick up a used 3000gt VR4 for about 10k now. Regardless of the price, it is still a 320 HP car with superb handling . There is no NEW car you can get for 10k that will come even close to it's performance. You could pick up three used VR4's for the price of a single new S2000, but that does mean Honda is ripping you off. You aren't comparing apples to apples.

The bottom line is you're just flat-out wrong, and stupid. You argue about cars you have no actual experience in owning or racing like you are the definitive expert.
So, here's what I've owned/own, in chronological order:

non of those are "glorified toyotas" IMO. i could see how the earlier es300s and gs series could be seen like that, however you CANNOT beat lexus reliability. dont care if its chevy or ford or dodge. lexus > domestic all day.
How is the GS-series a "glorified Toyota" the way an ES is? The ES built on the same platform as the Camry, the platform the GS is on doesn't have an American Toyota "sister" car.
I thought about picking up an is250 for a beater, but it was little more than what i wanted to spend on a beater. Great car tho.
Just do it, really, really, really, really great car for a nice daily.
lol. lexus = beater?! awesome! haha
Yeah, it is pretty awesome.
Wow, where to begin.
I'll put my "half-assed" Lexus up against any of your stable of FULL-ASS cars any day for anything but a drag race. I bought the "little" motor IS since I do already have the Z06, but actually it probably can drag w/ your fucking I5s anyway. But in terms of anything with a TURN I can and will destroy you and your shit. And I'll put $ behind that.
Further, the fact that you cannot visually distinguish a C6 Z06 from a 'standard' C6 further proves you are NOT an automotive enthusiast and know somewhere between jack and shit about cars. Massive fender flares aren't enough of a give-away for you? Much larger wheels perhaps? Giant red brake calipers? Duct on the front fascia vs. none?
You say the C6Z06 just has "extras" like "this and that" aye???? Sorry, a dry-sumped 427 that sits lower and further back in the chassis, AL chassis vs. steel, magnesium engine crade/front subframe vs. AL, 6/4 piston front/rear brakes vs. 2/1, and the list goes on and on are a bit more than "this and that." Shit, I'm probably going to dry-sump my C5Z06 and that shit alone is going to run me upwards of $5k in parts. Have you looked into what it costs to duplicate a hand-built all AL 427 with Ti rods & intake valves and a dry-sump? I guess when you're up in the compact truck stratosphere looking down on the rest of us lowly motorists, all these things could be seen as meer "extras."
And let's just say there is a brand new sub-$20k car that "outperforms" the S2000, even though there is not. What the hell does that prove? To those of us with actual money to spend on actual cars our purchases don't always come down to pure performance/dollar. Sometimes things like WHAT THE FUCK WE ACTUALY LIKE factor in. If you're comparing a S2K to a Civic Si you're assuming the potential buyer is willing to give up the convertible, rwd and drive 'just another civc.'
Dude, the "I could buy a X and spend Y on it and be faster than a car that costs Z" argument is as old as cars, and simply doesn't apply. You want the most billy-bad-ass car possible for $80? Go get a Factory Five GTM kit and build it out, you'll rape the world. Or a little more "down to earth" you could do a LSX FD. But again, some people aren't broke-ass scrubs and have bigger things going on in their lives so they want to just buy a car and drive it, end of story.
And the roof thing, I'll at least give you that (thought it was not a C6Z06 specific thing, but all early C6s). But GM too responsibility and fixed the issue, that's all one can really ask for out of a manufacturer.
Again, back to the S2000/Civic Si thing. You are now arguing about the drag racing merits of stock S2000s and Civics. You are a fucking idiot. Neither was built w/ drag racing in mind, and while people have succeeded in making both fast in the 1/4 they are just not drag-race cars.
I owned an early Si (see above) that out-handles the current car (esp w/ the mods I had). The car could really haul ass on a tight AutoX course or a really twisty back-road. However, FWD just isn't enjoyable for me (and lots of other ppl out there) so I moved on.
And what's wrong w/ a Miata? Come to an AutoX event my buddy Scott is racing a CSP Miata at and I'll put as much $ down as you want on Scott vs. you driving anything you can come up with. Pull a Ferrari out of your ass and I'm still down.
All that being said, I wouldn't buy a S2000 myself, it's not the car for me (not a 'vert fan, and if I'm going to have a 4cyl it's going to have boost) but for some ppl it is.

i mean style wise. the later model ES and GS models were pretty plain. however, in no way am i trying to discredit their reliability and performance. and lexus definitely did away with the boring look in the new generation IS and GS models.
i just watched the top gear review of the IS-F and all i have to say is :drool:

Yeah... other than the exhaust tips I really dig 'em. At that price-point Lexus has some tough comp w/ the C63, M3 and (soon) the new CTS-V. We'll see how low they drop in a year or two, maybe trade up from the "little" IS.

you do like the exhaust tips? ...love them as they basically have the whole porsche look going on. didn't really like the look as in my mind a question would always pop up as if why the exhaust is offset and not centered? ...got over that kinda quick though
do think the back end looks the best on the car
